Exploring the Ced Tarot with Griffin
February 27 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Thursday, repeating until April 23, 2020
This is a 9-week series delving primarily into the Ced Tarot, however as some of the symbolic imagery and concepts in the Ced Tarot relate to classical pre Rider Waite Tarot, there will be some delving into the mysteries presented in early Tarot Decks. You may find insight into the general Tarot legacy through this series.
The Rider Waite deck, as other decks coming from the Golden Dawn source, aligned their Tarots with the Kabalistic Tree of Life as a cosmological graph, bringing insight and order to those decks. The Tarot is, IMO, always depicts some expression of spiritually based cosmic order. In this same manner, the Ced Tarot is also aligned with the cosmology graph that expresses the cosmic order of the Ced Tradition, being one of many lines of British Traditional Witchcraft. Like many Traditional Witchcraft lines, our Cosmology is plotted upon what we call the Compass, which is our working construct. The Compass holds myriad layers of keys into Lore and Practice which can be revealed through working with the Ced Tarot.
I have had a long association to Tarot. I have also over 40 years as an Initiate of Traditional Witchcraft. For many years I have been told I should publish some of our Tradition insights and practices, and when wrestling with this, it dawned upon me that the tarot may be a wonderful working tool to delve into the complex myriad of subjects we hold within our Tradition. But for us to align our Tradition to the Tarot, we would have to find a graphic expression of a cosmology that would serve both the Witch Stream of my Tradition and that of the Classical pre Rider Waite Tarot.
What emerged from this approach was insightful not only with regards to the legacy of the Ced Tradition, but also cracked open a fresh new perspective on Tarot itself! Since the inception of the Ced Tarot more than two decades back, I have found the Ced Tarot to be a very present and communicative spirit that has become one of my primary gnostic teachers into the occult.
I know I have promised a book for many years now. A small basic pamphlet type book is done and is presently being worked through a final edit. This book will be released in PDF form for free to assist all those who have purchased the deck. More written material has been done but there is quite a bit of editing yet to do. I hope perhaps this Series may assist in the Edit process.
Note*This is not a Wiccan Based Witchcraft system; we do not work an Elemental based Magical system nor do we work with Elemental Golden Dawn Quarters concepts. This is an Airts based Deck, working the Major Arcana around a central crossroads Axis Mundi, with the primary directional qualities of Earth and the corresponding draconian Airts qualities associated with those directions. The Minor Arcana is expressing the decans of the Stellar houses and the Court Cards express the Lunar phases. This deck numbering 81 cards works with the interactive dance between three revolving compasses. Once this deck’s system is understood, it truly opens an endless vista of opportunities way beyond simple divination!
There is insight and fruit to be had for people of all levels in this series. For people who are interested in Tarot as well as Witches interested in the mechanics of the Traditional Witchcraft Compass!
It has been years since I did a series on this Deck, and I do not know when I may do another. So this series may get filled fast. An open mind to exploration into an alternative approach to the Tarot is required. A sense of humour is also required! We take our work seriously but not ourselves. Our Spirituality, what some call the Olde Religion, is a path of laughter! Yes we do cackle!
This class is seldom offered and we do have class size limitations, so it is advisable to reserve a space for this series before the class fills up! Call the Green Man at 818-985-2010. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
Note* We start each week at 7.30pm with open general discussion giving the first half hour so people running from work may make it to the class proper, which starts at 8.00pm.
